Grand Staff import disappointment!!!

edited October 2015 in Symphony Pro
I was hoping as you said "Support September 21
The 4.0 release in a few weeks should make part recognition a lot better, and there will eventually be more flexible display options for which tracks get divided into grand staff."

this would have been fixed in midi file import. but sadly it was not. I keep wanting to use Symphony Pro but it does not improve. So how can I change the staff to a grand staff? Also the drums are still not tracked to the GM Standard.

An automatic part extraction tool isn't quite ready yet, for MIDI import or for editing an existing score.

However, this is a feature we're working on and consider very important, since many others have requested. For the time being, you can consider using MuseScore (https://musescore.org/) to perform the MIDI import, since it provides the options we've been promising. It is a free notation app for Desktop that provides a part extraction tool. With most notation tools including MuseScore, you can export to SP4 using MusicXML.

Since your example shows a multi-voice part, you still ought to know that it's possible to extract a multi-voice staff manually. The new version makes manual extraction a lot easier, so we went ahead and created a very basic walkthrough on how you can do this, but note that it's a process that you will need to carefully follow step-by-step:

  • Thank you for the example. And also the quick reply.I have exported this page as a .pdf in Safari for later study and trying out Thanks again.

  • I got a reply about this from support and it is not ready yet to do this but the work around I use is export a piano part (Grand Scale) from Logic 9 as a midi file. Too bad but Logic 9 will not export MusicXML. then open the midi file in Finale Note Pad I have this on my Mac but do not know if it is still available. Then export out of Finale as a Music XML file and open in Symphony Pro this works
