Simple question - how to move to next note while using keyboard

Brand new user, fighting crashes but wanting to get this working. I start a new composition with an acoustic piano. Open the keyboard, enter the first note, and the cursor just sits there. With the keyboard open, I can find NO way to move to the next position on the score. I MUST be missing something stupidly simple, the docs don't help. What am I missing?

    Hi. The next version will address crashes with the exporter, the instrument picker, and it will bring new features. What you need to do is tap on the Pencil icon on the top bar. With the Arrow icon selected, the keyboard won't advance.
