Chords with notes of different lengths

I've tried to write a chord with one note a quarter note and the other a half note. When I attempt to insert the half note after inserting the quarter note the program automatically inserts another quarter note. I've checked example scores such as Claire de Lune which have chords with notes of different lengths, so there must be some way to do it.

    Hi bayreuth,

    Just tap the V1 button on your left. This automatically adds another voice, and V1 should turn into V2. 

    Then, you will be able to stack a quarter note and a half note.
