Staccato?

Is there an easier way to add stocatto's to large amounts of notes quickly! I was composing a song last night with some stoa cantos and I had to do a lot of notes by hand.. Help?

I'd also like to add: it would be good if staccato dots stayed in the same place relative to their placed note. Currently if you move the note tonally, or the bar layout gets readjusted, the dots don't always keep up.
